Just attach a source of air to the Bottom Base of the sponge filter and the built in diffuser will evenly filter the water through the sponge and up the Telescopic lift tube. Creates an excellent source of biological filtration. The weighted base stops it from floating to the top of the tank. The internal strainers snap together and are made from a durable flexible plastic for longer life. The 55 is good for tanks up to 55 gallons.
